Spotlight on Kevin Nichols
Meet Kevin Nichols
When did you join the CADC?
I joined the CADC on Tuesday, January 12, 2010. Yes, I am a newbie.
Why did you join?
Because I wanted to get involved with setting and implementing California’s diversity standards and best practices.
What’s your favorite aspect of participating in the CADC?
Collaborating with brilliant minds in order to create and innovate how California conducts business.
What’s your dream for the CADC?
To be an invaluable resource to small, medium, and large companies by teaching them empathy and compassion for ethnic, religious, gender, and sexual orientated differences, as well as teaching inclusion.
What role do you play in the CADC?
I am currently exploring an executive leadership role with the CADC that would allow me to further the organization’s objectives.
What’s your background?
I have worked in small, medium, and large law firms as a litigation paralegal, who created and developed diversity programs in several of them. Most recently, I was the diversity program chair for the San Francisco office of a large law firm and organized both internal and external diversity centered events such as Black History Month, Asian American/Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Pride Month, and Latino Heritage Month. I also own my own publishing company, so I have written and published articles publicizing same using various mediums.
What’s your passion – what would we find you doing when you’re not working or helping out with the CADC?
My passion lies in improving my community. A wise person once told me that “Service is the rent that you pay here on Earth”, and I plan to earn my keep by rolling up my sleeves and get involved with making life better for the next generation. When I am not helping out the CADC, I am writing about issues that impact my community, and highlight its achievements. I also moderate to LinkedIn groups and thoroughly enjoy bringing people together and networking. Hopefully, one day you will find me on a beach in Tahiti with a laptop writing a book.
